The Government is currently consulting on changes to planning laws around onshore wind in England. We need the Government to hear how much people like you love and benefit from wind farm ownership.
The consultation closes at 11.45pm tomorrow (2nd March). As the proposed changes are currently drafted, we don't believe they will result in more wind farms being developed in England. The presumption against new onshore wind farms appears to remain. Onshore wind planning applications should be treated the same as all other infrastructure projects.
We, as Ripple, have already submitted our own response to the current consultation. But it's important for Government to hear directly from members about how they benefit from wind farm ownership and would like to be able to own projects in England in the future. We have attached suggested wording for member of Graig Fatha or Kirk Hill. If you're a member of both, you can do a hybrid of the two.
Feel free to tweak them so they're personal. Please make sure to delete the words in red and change the words in yellow to reflect your individual ownership. You can respond via the online consultation portal.
Respond via the online consultation portal. You just need to put in your details, click that you're responding as an individual, then click through to question 43. The consultation is on lots of different areas of planning policy, not just wind. You don't need to give a view on the other questions, click click 'next' at the bottom of each page to move on.
When you get to question 43 be sure to click "No" where it asks whether you agree with the changes to Footnote 54 of the existing National Planning Policy Framework. You can then cut and paste (after having deleted the bits in red and changed the bits in yellow) the text from the template letters above into the comments section under question 43.
Let's end a policy that hampers both climate progress and energy security. We want to see more wind farms in England and give more people like you the chance to own them.
We don't want you to worry about what this may mean for Ripple. We've got a healthy pipeline of wind farms in Scotland and Wales (plus solar parks, too!). But opening up the possibility of new wind farms across England is certainly a good thing.
We'll keep you updated with any news as we get it.
